| In 1749 John Gwynn redrew Sir Christopher Wren's plan for rebuilding London after the great fire. Gwynn included a long explanation of the proposal, adding his own suggestion for the creation of a permanent body for "inspecting & condemning old & useless buildings and regulating new ones". This engraving is one of the most important documents in the history of planning. |
